Library services are evolving with the impact of technology and with changing needs of the patrons. With much of the print collections moving online and patrons accessing information from outside library walls, the spaces in libraries are being used as ‘learning spaces”. Libraries have always played a role in facilitating knowledge in society and now can play a role in creating the new literacies and skills required in today’s world. A makerspace is, in a sense, a new stage in the evolution of the library as a lab.

Bringing Making into Libraries fosters curiosity, imagination, and active learning. It aligns beautifully with knowledge development and research in libraries.

Value for Libraries :

  • Supporting all age groups for exploring their creativity and expanding their abilities to create than instead of just consume knowledge
  • Increase membership reach to more than information seekers, towards learners, tinkerers, hobbyists, creators and innovators
  • Support a collaborative community that comes together for learning and knowledge sharing
  • Increase patron loyalty through challenges and competitions
  • Engage patrons in lifelong learning through creation, stories, play and fun
  • Make the Library – THE GO TO PLACE – for creating, learning and innovation.

Our Solutions for Library Makerspace

ROBOTICS

Robotics is a proven and effective way to capture participants attention and keep them engaged in hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math activities.

In this session, participants will build a robot from scratch using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 and program it to move in a given path. Participants will then participate in a challenge that is designed to get them excited as they model real-life mechanisms and solve real-world challenges, all while building the critical-thinking and creative problem-solving skills that will serve them well for a lifetime.

3D Modeling & 3D Printing

Dremel

Children’s heads are full of ideas and creativity, but they lack a medium to express it by bringing it to life.

Imagine if participants can bring their 3 Dimensional ideas into an actual object? 3D Printing is a new way of making things digitally using a printer that uses plastic filament instead of ink, and prints objects in 3D dimensions.
Participants will learn – Intro to 3D Design & 3D Printing; 3D Sketching; Design a simple object using TinkerCad; and 3D Printing your model.

Electronics & IOT

littleBits

Participants can grab their wands and start practicing their charms. We will challenge participants to use their inner magic to create a Harry Potter-inspired invention.
Using easy to use littleBits Electronic bits participants can build inventions inspired by the Harry Potter book and movie series.

In this session, participants will use electronics, sensors build circuits and combined with craft can build a magical animatronic creature, Forge an enchanted tool and test their inventions with other people.

Sphero

Sphero

Designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and invention through connected play and coding, SPRK+ is far more than just a robot. Powered by the Sphero Edu app, you can easily learn programming, complete hands on activities and share your creations with the community.

Makey Makey

An Invention Kit for Everyone, is an electronic invention tool and toy that allows users to connect everyday objects to computer programs using a Circuit board, alligator chip and a USB cable the toy uses closed loop electrical signals to send the computer either a keyboard stroke or mouse click signal. This function allows the Makey makey to work with any computer program or webpage since all computer programs and webpages take keyboard and mouse click inputs.

Arduino Bot

Arduino

Arduino, an open-source platform used for building electronics projects has become quite popular with people just starting out with electronics.

This session consists of hands-on activities where participants learn about Arduino and then use that knowledge to build a fully autonomously bot from scratch. They learn to set up Arduino Environment, write and upload sketches to Arduino, assemble the bot make the bot move, control its direction and add additional logic to steer the bot.

Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality

In this session, participants explore their creativity with AR. Participants see their creations come to life in 4D. Participants splash colours using colouring pencils or markers which come alive. Turn the Octanians into animated 3D characters by using the Octaland4D+ Occupation App.

VR: The Oculus mobile platform transforms your GALAXY smartphone into a portable VR device that lets you experience anything, anywhere. The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality headset.
